Rise and Shine

Good Morning! It's been such a relaxing weekend so far..ahhh much needed :) Lots of crafting, coffee drinking and just hanging out with Johnny.  So feeling quite rested, I popped out of bed in hopes of popping some Cinnamon rolls in the oven to start the day right.  Well, to my dismay we didn't have any but we DID have crescent rolls!! So I made my own and you can too!!
All you need is..
1 roll of crescent rolls, 1/3 cup brown sugar, 1/3 & 1/2 cup powdered sugar,
2/3 T cinnamon 3 T butter, 2 T milk

Semi-homemade Cinnamon rolls:
1) Preheat oven to 375
2) Mix 1/3 packed brown, 1/3 powdered sugar, 2 T butter softened, 2/3 T Cinnamon
3) Separate crescent rolls into 2 rectangles, set one side to the side
4) Spread mixture on one half of crescents and top with other rectangle, pinch sides together
5) Cut into thin slices, roll and place in round baking pan
6) Bake for 15-17 min

While rolls are baking whip up the icing!
Mix 1 T softened butter, 1/2 cup powdered sugar and 2 T milk
Drizzle over warm rolls

you have plenty of time to brew a yummy pot of coffee..mmmm

I hope you enjoy! We sure did :)
Happy Sunday!

Baking for a Cause

If you know me you know I look for any reason to bake something sweet.  This week I had a wonderful reason to whip up a yummy cake.  I volunteered to bake a cake for a child in need to help brighten his day! The organization I did this through is called Free Cakes for Kids and I think it is a great idea!  There are different teams of people on different months, my months are May and December. The organization takes applications for children who need a birthday cake submitted by teachers or family friends. Free Cakes for Kids sends each team member an application with the child's age and favorite type of cake.  The little boy I baked my cake for turned 10 on Thursday and wanted white cake and enjoys the color blue and cars.  This is what I came up with!

Didn't want Johnny to feel left out so I made him a mini cake :)
Happy Baking!

Secret Garden

Quick little post to feature my mom's beautiful garden in her back yard.  It truly is a secret garden because it is so peaceful and hidden quite nicely.  Snapped some pretty little pics..

yulp that's Johnny :)

made him scoot over :)

There are so many neat little spots in her garden.  I really hope that one day I will have a garden half as relaxing as this one!

O yeah..check this out, mom put scraps of fabric and thread out for the birds to pick up for nesting materials.  Such a neat idea! I really hope I get to spot a nest with fabric in it!
Happy planting!

Sweet Saturday

I'm really starting to grow fond of my Saturday's with Johnny :)  We work all week and this is our one day we have to just hang out together and see what we can get in to.  Yesterday started with banana nut muffins and freshly brewed coffee..yum.  We decided to invest in a new coffee maker with the grinder built in and we are SOO happy we did!  I can actually taste the difference, I was hesitant at first but now I'm a believer.
such a great way to start the day :)

excited for the day to come!!

Every Saturday starts out with us throwing around ideas of how we each would like to spend the day and yesterday we decided to journey down to the Jefferson Davis Monument right outside Hopkinsville, KY.  Sound boring? Well..I had the same thought initially but Johnny is a history buff and there is a Starbucks close by so we headed out.  First stop, Starbucks! I got the new coconut mocha frappuccino and it was super tasty.  You should try it!  Than we headed towards our destination.  I snapped a few pics of our little journey.  A few quick facts..The monument is the 4th tallest monument in the country and it is made from limestone mined from the site it is built on which makes it the only one of it's kind in the world!  I was impressed.

About to head to the top!

Pretty sweet view from 300 feet up..

We timed it perfect because we were the only ones on the tour

Check out the website for more info:
There is always a journey to be had somewhere near, yes even in Kentucky :)

Once we finished up at the monument we headed over to a little Amish greenhouse to pick up some flowers and tomato plants!  We also picked up some peaches, green peppers and homemade strawberry jam and apple butter!  I love supporting places like this, made right here in Kentucky :)

Hopefully these tomatoes will flourish and I will be able to show you the produce :) fingers crossed!  My plan is to get enough to can some goodies this summer!!

Our day ended with planting, relaxing and a bonfire.  Such a sweet Saturday.
Happy weekend!

Handmade Goodies...

I have always loved handmade goodies but I have become even more obsessed with them since I have been making my own.  Making my own makes me realize the hard work and creativity it takes to make something interesting.  I recently purchased some from a couple different people.  I'm totally addicted!  Check out these sweet pieces..

These awesome wash clothes were made by Alena Carnes, she doesn't have an etsy shop just yet but I think she should start one!! High quality product!

All my new goodies from Violet Bella and Skyline Fever (Jewelry by Violet Bella and Tee by Skyline Fever)

What is even neater about these two creative people is that they are married :) How awesome? Very!

March for Babies!!

Yesterday was the March of Dimes Walk for Hopkins County!  While the weather was a bit gloomy the walk turned out bright.  There was a big turnout and tons of healthy kids running around playing.  Watching these children play and laugh makes my heart absolutely melt.  There are a few of them that I vividly remember taking care of while they were patients in the NICU. Each premature baby had to start their lives out fighting hard from the start and they can enjoy life now and I feel like, in a small way, I helped them get here.  When I see their parents I remember the hours and hours they sat and waited for their small bundle of joy to improve in the slightest.  Being able to tell them that they have gained weight or tolerated a feeding would make their day instantly brighter, if you are a NICU parent you know what I am talking about :) I can not imagine how hard it would be to watch the most important thing in your life struggle so hard.  The parents of a NICU baby are some of the strongest people I have ever met.  Ok I may be tearing up now so on to happy moments..here are a few pics from the March of Dimes Walk, wish I had more but the rain kinda ruined that :)
Little miss Kaylyn playing hard all day, she is the ambassador baby this year!
Sweet little Will :)

 NICU nurses reunited :))

If you came out to support March of Dimes, Thank you!!!  We raised an amazing $20,000!
Happy Sunday!
