Rollin Rollin Rollin...

This past weekend I met up with a small group of girls for our annual canoe trip on the Red River in Tennessee.  2012 is our third year doing this:)  Every year the group varies a tad due to the real world of jobs and kids etc.  This year there were six of us and we had an absolute blast, of course we do every year.  Last year it rained so much that it took us about an hour to get down the river and this year it was completely different, it took us 6 hours, talk about a workout!!  After paddling for that long we were pretty worn out and ready to crash:)  I think it was a general coincidence that we were all super sore and had multiple random bruises on our bodies.  I'm already looking forward to next year!  See last years adventure here:)

Happy Paddling!

Cookie Pops

I recently co-hosted a sweet little diaper shower for a close friend expecting her second baby.  I thought it would be the perfect opportunity to try out cookie pops.  I'm not sure what they are really called but that is the name I feel best suited for these tasty treats.  I also like the fact that they look like mini baby rattles:)
Ok you will need...
1 package of Oreos
1 package of almond bark (flavor of choice)
Pretty little sprinkles
Candy sticks
Optional: plastic bags

It's as easy as 1, 2 ,3...Stick, Dip and Sprinkle

O the Olympics

I don't know about you but I completely loved watching the Olympics over the past couple of weeks.  My favorite events of the games were gymnastics and track and field.  However I found myself watching any and every sport they decided to show on TV.  I was sorta sad on Sunday when the closing ceremonies were on.  The Olympics gave me an excuse to be festive and patriotic:)  USA came out on top in the medal counts which was great to see.  It was really amazing how much the human body can do, I swear I've never seen so many athletic, healthy bodies! I snapped a few pics over the past few weeks of the Olympic festivities.

Happy Summer!

Reunited with Running

It seems like forever since I have signed up for a race, frankly it's been too long.  I'm happy to say I have signed up for 2 5ks for the fall and plan on signing of for a half as well!  A couple months ago a group of girls and I decided to sign up for The Color Run so we registered as a group:)  Our group name is The Baby Whispers..we thought it was perfect since we are all NICU (Neonatal Intensive Care Unit) nurses.  I'm really excited about this one simply because it's got the fun factor tied in with the run.  Check out the website here for a city near you!  I also signed up for the Race for the Cure here in Evansville supporting breast cancer research.  This will be my 4th time running this 5k and it remains one of my favorites.  The cause is such a good one you can't help but feel good about supporting it.  Lastly I plan to sign up for The Evansville Half Marathon with a couple girls from work, however I am waiting until the deadline to sign up, just in case my knee starts bothering me too bad.  So far my knee is cooperating:)  Today I had a great run, it was a beautiful breezy day and my short hair is sooo great to run with!  No more sweaty hair wrapping around my shoulders and neck, sorry that was kinda gross but yes it was the unfortunate happenings of a runner with a long pony tail.  So I am happy to say I feel reunited with running.  I was never fully disconnected but I do feel like I was slacking and not spending enough time with my running self.  Are you running any runs in the near future? Tell me about them, I'd love to hear:)
Yes I'm excited about my itty bitty bun..yes that makes me a bit of a dork
At least I'm a happy dork:)

Happy Running!

Give the Gift of Hair

Last week my friend Alicia and I cut are locks off and gave them to someone who really needs them.  Alicia and I have been talking about donating our hair for months now but were waiting until after she got married to do so.  Only days after her returning from her honeymoon we took the leap and chopped it off.  She donated 13 inches and I chopped 11 inches.  I have such a love/hate relationship with long hair..I love it most of the time but HATE it when I'm running, at work and when it's hot outside!  This is my fourth time donating my hair, I have donated to Locks of Love once and Pantene Beautiful Lengths Program twice.  The minimum length to donate to Locks of Love is 10 inches and Pantene will take a minimum of 8 inches.  Both of these places take "virgin" hair and certain dyed hair but no highlights aloud.  Since I had my hair highlighted I had to look around and see if I could find a place who would take my hair...and I did!  The Art of Wigs accepts lightly highlighted hair with a minimum of 10 inches to be donated, so that is where my hair is now:)  Alicia donated hers to Locks of Love.  I invite you to check out each of these places if you have ever thought about donating your beautiful healthy hair, I'm sure there are many many people who would truly appreciate it:)
