2 weeks In

Here we are just shy of 2 weeks into 2014 and I must say...not too shabby, so far:)  This feeling may be in large part to being on vacation for the last 11 days (insert huge smile).  After all the hustle and bustle of the holidays it has been an absolute gift to just be able to get caught up on life!  I have been cleaning out closets, washing literally everything in this apartment, wasting time watching my latest Netflix obsession One Tree Hill (so lame I know), cooking, juicing, running, getting ready for school to start again, spending time with Johnny and catching up with friends!  I think I could get used to the whole not working thing:)  Lucky for me my job is so stinking awesome I actual don't mind being there.  How is your new year so far?

O yeah and hanging with this guy...
 Happy Monday!

Just Juicy

I suppose this wouldn't be considered ASAP from my last post (like I had promised), however it is as quick as I could do between being out of town last wknd and working. Regardless here I am ready to share my juices from this past month. I've gotten a few emails and messages through Facebook and Instagram with questions about juicing. Johnny and I have certain fruits and veggies that are our "go to" ingredients for our juices but we enjoy trying out new combos and new produce! In every juice we put 2 huge handfuls of greens (spinach usually). As I was walking through Barnes and Noble today I saw a tone of juicing books and it made me very happy to see. Bed bath and beyond has lots of juicers to choose from now as well! I'm hoping its a lasting trend I am seeing! I snapped a few pictures of our juice this month to share with you! Please feel free to share websites, recipes, ideas etc that you use in your juicing routine:) If you are looking to get into juicing there is a tone of info online and recipes to try!
Our go to produce: Spinach, carrots, celery, apples, oranges and kiwi
Other goodies we have juiced this year: pear, sugar pears, papaya, turnip greens, parsley, lemons, broccoli, grapes and cranberries

Joining SAMs Club has been so great for our juicing! We have been 3 times this year and bought carts full of produce:)

Happy Juicing!

PS This week we started adding chia seeds to the juice. With a bizarre texture comes great benefits!

Summer Sips

Summer is just around the corner and there is nothing better than a nice cold drink on a hot day. Alongside juicing I have been playing around with different smoothie combinations.  Smoothies are nice, in comparison to juicing because you can add ice or yogurt to make it more of a milkshake texture.  I am going to share with you some of the combinations I have been experimenting with as well as different juices to try too!
Cheers to healthy summer sips!
Let's start with juice..
watermelon, spinach, peach, carrot, orange and beet juice

spinach, celery, orange, carrot, lime and apple juice

apple, orange, carrot juice

strawberry juice:)

cantaloupe, rhubarb, carrot, apple, spinach juice

Now a couple of smoothie ideas...
spinach, peach, banana, vanilla yogurt and ice

spinach, banana, strawberries, strawberry yogurt and ice
I have found it very helpful to peel and freeze the banana because it gives the smoothie a thicker consistency
I plan on sharing new combinations throughout the summer!  Let me know if you have a fav drink!
Happy Drinking!

Juice and Smoothies and Tea Oh My!

I am happy to inform you we are still juicing!  We are getting used to taking the time out of our busy days to fit in this healthy yumminess.  I've also been experimenting with different ingredients to make healthy smoothies which are perfect for post workout recovery!  With pretty weather I've been able to run outside a lot more in the past 2 weeks which gives the motivation to run father, which in turn gives me a reason to juice or make a smoothie.  Such a great reward for hard work:) I want to share a few of my favs over the past 10 days or so with you..
1 carrot
1 orange
2 granny smith apples

Make sure you consume your fresh juice within 6hr or so, best if within 10-15 min to get the full benefits of the nutrients

1/2 cucumber
1 orange
1 handful spinach
1 apple
2 carrots
1 lemon
1 lime
2 beets

tips:
cucumbers produce a lot of juice so have a big cup ready!
adding ice helps the taste sometimes:)
juice from soft to the hardest produce in order to push the juice through

1 golden delicious apple
1 1/2 oranges
1 carrot
1 lemon
The deal with citrus fruit..peel oranges and grapefruits before juicing but feel free to leave the peel on lemons and limes!

How about a post workout smoothie??
1/2 frozen banana
1/2 cup soy milk
1 Tbsp almond/peanut butter
1 handful spinach
throw it in the blender!

This one has 1/2 cup frozen blueberries added to the above recipe
Also if you want to add thickness just add ice!

Tea Time..
I enjoy lots of different types of tea but my current favorite would have to be this!
Happy Drinking!

The Juicy Details

The other day I was trying to decide on something to watch on Netflix, which I have found is kinda hard with all of the options, I decided to watch one more food based movie.  I watched Fat Sick and Nearly Dead which is a documentary about one man who decides to do a fresh juice based diet for 60 days!  Sounds crazy right?  Well I thought the same thing but the movie was definitely worth watching because he literally not only saves his own life but the life of a complete stranger:) Of course I researched this juice diet online and found their website here.  They have different plans from a long weekend cleanse to a full 15 day plan.  The theory is to cleanse your body of toxins and heal your damaged cells with micro nutrients.  Johnny and I were super interested after watching this movie so I asked my mom if we could borrow their juicer to see if we would like it.  Our plan is to juice one to two times a day for now.
We headed out to get a cart full of fresh produce to begin our juicing..
this is what we came back with..

We were pretty excited to get started so we decided to each pick a few things for the drink and throw it in..

we also added handfuls of kale and fresh spinach..so each drink ended up with
1 orange
1 lime
1 apple
2 carrots
2 beets
1 handful of spinach
1 handful of kale

cheers!
So how was it? Wellll...not bad!
For breakfast this morning we used mainly fruits for a sweeter juice

This tasty goodness has..
1 apple
1/2 orange
1/2 cup blueberries
1/2 cup mango
1 carrot
If you juice feel free to share recipes and combinations you have tried and liked!
Happy Juicing!
