Project Runway Play Day #3

My Project Runway challenge to myself this week was to make a skirt that is more "flowy".  I've made skirts in the past but they have basically been straight skirts.  I wanted it to have a very fall, warm feeling to it.  I used some vintage fabric I got at a thrift store and created a flowy skirt for a wopping $2.00!  I realized the key is to at least double the hip measurement to give the extra room.  I actually had a pattern in my hand today but laid it down because on Project Runway, no patterns on your personal vision :) I'm looking forward to wearing it in the near future. Sorry for the dark pictures, it's raining outside today.

I decided to throw a second challenge in and make Johnny a bow tie!  He wore one to a wedding recently and it really inspired me to make him more.  It turned out so good I may just start making them to sell in the shop :)

Tomorrow my goal..find "boyish" fabric. Johnny says all my fabric is girly, he's pretty much right :) So be looking for these soon!

Project Runway Play Day #2

I may just make this a habit.  My Project Runway challenge to myself today was to create a go to tshirt that is all season friendly.  Mission accomplished :) I can throw a cardigan over it and make it perfect or fall! Once again I did not use a pattern but I did order a couple vintage patterns from etsy yesterday so I may be using one sometime soon.

Welp my seester just showed up so I gotta run!

Playing Project Runway Today

Today is one of my days off for the week and all I had planned was to run, craft and read, three of my favorite things :) I haven't gotten any reading in just yet but I did get my morning run in and I've been crafting off and on all day!  For a couple of hours I played project runway in my sewing room.  I came up with a challenge, picked my fabric, no patterns aloud and started creating.
My challenge: make myself something I can wear that I've never made before. So I made a lightweight cropped jacket! Here is the finished product.

It's not perfect but I sure do like it. I really do need to start using a pattern but it's just so stinking fun to see if my vision turns into reality.  Today it did.
Happy Creating!

Derby Day

The Kentucky Derby was yesterday and unfortunately I had to watch it on TV.  Looks like they had pretty weather and the usual massive crowd.  The horses are so impressive! Maybe I'll get to go next year. I've never had the drink of the derby, a mint julep, so we decided to celebrate the derby by making some! Not my favorite but I'm happy I tried it.  Here's the recipe we used..

Dad played bartender..

I hope you had a good Derby Day!
Happy Racing!
