Got Bangs?

Every since I saw Zooey Deschanel with her gorgeous fringe bangs I immediately wanted bangs.  It took me a little while to get brave and cut such thick bangs but when I did I was super happy about it:)  Are you considering bangs?  If so I have a few ways I wear my bangs that I would like to share with you:)  These are all super straight forward and basic but nice to think about before you brave the bangs!
bangs.
angle them...
swoop them...
 pin them straight back or....
twist and pin to the side...
middle part and band them...
headband them..
now lets trim them...
grab bangs and twist..

now trim them...
now you have slightly shorter bangs:)
I have to trim mine lots between salon visits so it's nice to know this little trick!
Happy Bangs!

Kale Chips

Who knew kale could actually taste good?!  When I first started juicing I bought a huge bag of kale and used about half f it in various drinks but slowly started hating the taste.  Kale sort of dominates the flavor of the juice so I tried to think of a way to use the leftover kale.  After some research I decided to try kale chips!  Lots of different websites had their version of this tasty snack.  The verdict: super tasty and ultra healthy!!  Try it.. go ahead it's only kale:)
Let's get started!
Preheat your oven to 350
If u run across a big stem rip the leaves off and throw the stem away.  Place kale on lightly greased baking sheet.  Spray kale with a light coat of extra virgin olive oil. Sprinkle with desired spices.  I used sea salt, paprika, garlic and pepper.  Simple enough:)  Pop the baking sheet in the oven and bake until kale is crisp ( about 10 min).
Eat as a tasty snack or pare with your favorite grilled treat, like a yummy quinoa burger!
Enjoy!

Hunger Games Night

Have you read the Hunger Games series?  I read the first book months ago and was super excited to watch the movie last night!  It was so good:)  The main character was dead on what I thought she should look and act like!  If you like to read you should check this series out.  After the movie Tara and I HAD to buy the second book so we can be ready for the next movie.  So my plans for tomorrow is to sit on my little balcony and read as much of it as I can!   I really enjoy books that are made in to movies, it is simply double the fun.  Have you read any good books lately??  Please share!

Happy Hunger Games!

Hot Yoga

If you look back at my New Years resolution post you will find something like...learn to enjoy yoga. I think I may be well on my way in accomplishing that goal and holding up to my plans for the new year! I went to Hot Yoga for the first time this week with two girls from work, Alicia & Whitney. Alicia had been before and invited Whitney and I along. Boy am I glad she did!! I loved it!!! Yes I said the word love in reference to a yoga class;). I think the reason I liked it so much was because I felt like I burned a tone of calories by doing simple moves. The heat took a little bit to get used to (90-105 degrees) but once I did the sweat didn't really bother me. I pictured all my toxins seeping out of my body;). Dorky? Well maybe. Regardless I felt great once I got home and took a shower and slept like a rock! So yes I found a yoga I like and yes I recommend hot yoga to you! I was still smiling when it was all over and than I contemplated if I should go back..well heck yeah I'm going back!!
Happy sweating!

Welcome Spring!

While the weather has been screaming spring for a couple of weeks now it is finally officially spring!  We didn't really have much of a winter here in Indiana but it is always nice to see the flowers blooming and the runners on the sidewalks:)  Today was my spring cleaning day..yuck...however now that it is finished I can smile about it.  I went to Bath ad Body and stocked up on spring/summer candles and soap to help our newly cleaned apartment smell real nice.  I looked at it as a little reward for the hard work I put in.  I managed to pop through the Starbucks drive-thru and get a sweet little passion iced lemonade..mmm, another reward to myself haha.  In reality I don't really mind cleaning because I always love the feel of clean sheets and a clean living space.  So what else has spring brought with it?

flowers...

A sweet baby girl for one of my very best friends, Becca:)

Ice cold drinks...

Quinoa Burgers

There are hundreds of quinoa burger recipes out there.  After researching all the different variations of recipes and trialing a few of them I have my very own.  These burgers are a great meatless option for vegetarians or even meat eaters who want something a little different.  I'm looking forward to grilling them this summer!
Ingredients:
1/2 c quinoa
3/4 c water
1/4 onion diced
1//4 carrot diced
15 oz can black beans, rinsed
3 Tbsp egg whites
1/4 cup bread crumbs
1/2 t Italian seasoning
1/2 T cumin
1/2 T paprika
garlic, salt, pepper to taste

First cook your quinoa, bring 3/4c water to boil and add quinoa.
Cover quinoa, reduce to simmer and cook for about 10 -12 min
While quinoa is cooking dice onion and carrot
Once quinoa is cooked add all ingredients to a blender and blend until mixed well
Separate mixture into 6-8 patties and cook on a lightly greased skillet for 6-7 min on each side
enjoy!

DIY: Fabric Covered Flats

With the weather warmin up and the sun coming out I felt uber inspired to take a boring pair of black flats and give them life with bright polka dotted fabric!  You can make them too!

Let's get started!

Gather these supplies:
-pair of flats
-fabric of choice
-mod podge
-scissors
-iron
-fabric glue/ spray adhesive

First cut out four pieces of fabric for each shoe: 2 long rectangles for the sides and one piece for the toe and one for the heel...

Now iron around the edges of each piece..

Using fabric glue and spray adhesive fit your fabric around the shoe
I outlined the fabric with the fabric glue and sprayed the adhesive onto the shoe and pressed fabric against the shoe

If desired, to give the fabric extra protection, cover with mod podge
After they are dry they are ready to sport around town!

Happy Creating!
